You’re questioning the existence of folk magic traditions? If so, you need to get yourself some books. I’m not saying any particular tradition extends to antiquity, just that many modern practitioners have built their practices upon a mélange of techniques that have retained an overall shape since antiquity. You can see the template going back to the Chaldean Oracles, through the Greek Magical Papyri, reworked in the grimoires, elaborate upon by Victorian occultists, and so forth. When stripped down, magic has some key concepts and practices that remain similar throughout cultures and eras.
Gardnerian Wicca claimed an ancient lineage, but it was created from various trendy ideas in the 20th century, many of which have been disproved over time. That doesn’t invalidate it as a religion or practice, but I always prefer truth to fictions.
