Take a male, promotable E-5 that has a bar for favorable action due to exceeding male body fat standards, which means he cannot be promoted, and is facing separation four years short of retirement eligibility. He will lose all his future retirement pay and benefits and his family will suffer. If he declares that he is female, he will instantly meet the new female body fat standards, get promoted to E-6 and be able to retire in four years with life-time retirement benefits. I think with his family’s well being at stake, he will be a gal for the next four years.
