On a personal level, I choose not to work because I have sufficient income that is resonably taxed. Additional income would be taxed at a much higher rate not only as a higher percentage but in terms of the evaporating deductions and tax credits not to mention the SSDI burden. Then there are the additional expenses such as transportation, work clothes and child care. After taxes and expenses, it is not worth my time which is more valuable than money. Raise the tax burden and I will certainly not return to work. Lower the tax burden and I might consider it and thus pay more in taxes. A Laffer like curve in effect.
