Excellent piece. It used to be a fun sport and was my favourite sport to watch. However, over the decades it has become that a tackle is no longer just a tackle, a hit is no longer just a hit. Now it seems that each tackle is borderline manslaughter. The intention is to maim. That isn’t fun at all. That in conjunction with all the other things you mention: domestic violence, PEDs, political statements, and lest we forget the constant celebrating of sacks, tackles, touchdowns, and not to mention how so many act like big kids and not adults.

I never ever compared myself to an NFL player, but always could relate to them as men; and being a good athlete myself, I appreciated and marvelled at the athleticism. However, that no longer is the case. They act less and less like men and I no longer trust their athletic ability as being natural (or gained the old fashioned way). I also don’t need political statements when I am watching sports. That is done all the time by everyone and is everywhere. I don’t need it in my sports too.

Football and the NFL……RIP
