Great article and insights though I think this is a cheap, cheap shot:
“ I realized too late that I was dealing with an insecure, “alpha” male (the worst type).”
It is chauvinism disguised as victimization. If a man wrote this article and wrote off your criticisms or style of critiquing on being a woman “I realized too late I was dealing with a pushy aggressive female (the worst type)” or “I realized I was dealing with emotional fragile woman (the worst type”) or even “I realized too late I was dealing with an insecure “alpha” female (the worst type)” it would be offensive to you and reek of not only sexism but the very type of blind spot and rationalization you claim to be working through.
Was his feedback self-serving and less-than-helpful? Without a doubt. By writing that off to his gender “weakness” you missed a chance to ask what he would have done to see if you could have learned a thing or two (or not). And maybe helped him in the process to frame negative feedback positively without self-aggrandizement. Because I’ll guess that as a person in a position he (probably) also feels sometimes overhwjelmed by, he’s learning as he goes along too.
