While I applaud everything you say and the integrity it took to uncover the historical truths let us not forget; the North, non-slave-holding states were just as racist as the South and, while the war might not have been about “state rights” it was most decidedly not about freeing slaves. If the North was truly different at heart than the South and the war was about freeing slaves, there would not have been 200+ years of ongoing oppression and institutionalized racism. While not letting ‘The South’ off the hook for the Civil War it is important not to put ‘The North’ on a pedestal. There may not have been statues erected to Robert E Lee in Northern cities but make no mistake; it’s history since 1865 was just as oppressive to blacks as any small city in the south.
