This was a class assignment I did a while back, it’s like my mini-biography of Audi. (enjoy).

Audi was founded in 1909 by a guy named August Horch. Ironically, Audi was founded after Horch got kicked out of his own company, Horch.

Horch was the first car company he founded in 1899. One of Horch’s friend came up with the name Audi for the new car company. Audi in Latin means “listen”. Infuriated after being kicked out of the company, he decided to make a new, better car company and he wanted everyone to “listen”.

August Horch was a renowned race car driver and in July of 1911, he showed the world the first car of Audi in Zwickau, Germany. Horch won the Alpine Rally three times, in a row. This gained him some noise and became known as the guy who built the most efficient and precise engines.

From there, Audi has continued to build one of the most luxurious cars of its time, like the Audi Type SS. But in 1928, the depression hit and it led to Audi’s collapse in 1928, it was taken over by DKW.

By 1932, the depression was lessening and 4 car brands merged to become the Auto Union. These 4 car brands included Horch, Audi, DKW, and Wanderer.

Each car company represented a different part of the Auto Union. This is where the 4 rings came from, it represented the 4 car companies that merged at the tail end of the depression.

By 1938, 1 out of every 4 cars you would see on the street was an Auto Union car.

When World War 2 rolled by, production stopped for a while. The company came back in 1965, this time it was under VWAG aka Volkswagen.

It moved its headquarters from Germany to Ingolstadt, Bavaria.

The first model of Audi was sold in 1968 and was given the tile “C1”. An adaption currently exists today called “A6”. By 1971, Audi used their slogan, “Vorsprung durch Technik”, in a marketing campaign for the first time. It was used to market their new car the “Ro 80” which is today the “S6”.

Backtracking to their innovations, in 1976, they invented the first 5 cylinder engine. This innovation by Audi made new grounds for a more fuel-efficient world.

By 1978, they launched one of their first cars, the Audi 80, and it had their “Quattro technology”, which is still used in most of their car models today.

By 1989, Audi presented a new engine, it was the TDI 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine. It became the world’s first production car diesel engine with turbocharging, direct injection and electronic management.

By 1993, Audi made the switch to their construction principles. Instead of constructing their cars with mostly steel, they experimented and switched to aluminum, which made the weight considerably lighter.

By 2009, Audi presented “e-Tron”, Audi took the leap towards the likely future of electric cars and set the bar for other competitors.

It’s “e-Tron” technology can impressively go from 0 kph to 100 kph in 4.8 seconds.

It also has a 250 km driving range.

Audi has come a long way, from winning car races in Germany to now being globally ranked second behind BMW as a market leader.

In 2011, just over 1.3 million cars were sold in Western Europe and China. Their slogan, “Vorsprung durch Technik”, translated to “advancements through technology” has been nothing but the truth.

Audi in the last 10 years has increased their volume of sales by 100%.

Audi’s image as a world brand can be described by one word: consistent.

Audi has been nothing but consistent. Consistent with their design, innovation, and creativity.

Adding more, their ads and marketing campaigns have them stand out with from other car companies.

Audi stands out as a modern, inspirational firm that has to be respected.

Audi over the years has introduced a multitude of new car models ranging their size and price. Instead of focusing on one main size and design, like other car companies, Audi gives an abundance of options to choose from. Audi offers 8 sizes (A1-A8) and gives you the option of different price levels (S/RS).

Through these choices, most car buyers will find a car perfect for them.
