Au contraire, mon ami. IMHO, “identity politics” is not about ‘holding different groups to different standards,’ as you suggest. Rather, it’s been a long tradition of recognizing how elements of American society have been denied the rights and respect, and petitioning through the collective conversation how to amend such shortcomings. It’s about helping everyone be more responsible for living up to our highest values.
