The shy nomads

Everything in the scientist’s microscope becomes real. A new city grows between every pair of slides that is pressed together. The blobs become buildings, tall and squat. The squiggles become people who are alive and moving with a slight blur. All the other filaments transform into the beasts and blooms of nature. After all these years, the scientist still has difficulty distinguishing man from woman and dog from jackal. These advancements take time. For now, the scientist watches with rapt excitement, slight confusion, and a creeping feeling of prejudice.

That, right there, may be rain. Or it could be the first trembles of apocalypse. The sky darkens. Everything looks for a place to hide.

A few times a week, I make a collage and then write a story based (however loosely) on that collage. This is one of those stories.
