One takeaway from this article is the clear, painful recognition that we are divided more than ever. But this is how it HAS to be, now. We have to steel ourselves for a very painful battle amongst ourselves. Hopefully it can be peaceful and reason-based. But what we can’t do — ever — is to normalize this situation. Elie Wiesel left us, but he left us with two important words: Never Forget.
It’s a tragedy we couldn’t have moved orders of magnitude past the racism, sexism, homophobia, and xenophobia that have defined us for millenia. But for now, we have to push back emerging fascism. That must be our focus.
