Yes! Simone did such a good job reading. She gave such a beautiful gift by clearly taking the time and attention to sit with the words until she could feel the heart of the poem. I’m super grateful to her — and to Brad, who chose her reading (out of several other ones) to fit the tone of the poem and film so well.
Thank you, Tien! Yes, I was really happy to be paired with Brad Bores for this project; I liked his cinematic style from the moment I first checked out his work. And yes, Simone did a great job reading it. She is actually VPP’s casting director, but she ended up reading this poem herself! I’m so grateful to both of them for their attention to these words.
Yes Susan! A friend of mine preached a sermon earlier this year in which he wondered out loud: What if God had said “Forget them!” instead of “Forgive them…” on the cross?
I actually wrote a poem about that dark idea earlier this year. I will share it sometime in the future!
I’m not sure I’d want to read “a compulsively readable story about a doomed widow’s adventure to explore her… writer’s block.”
And it’s hard to imagine “a high-voltage page-turner about a depressed adventurer’s desire to give up cancer.”
(I did my first and last name.)
