Thank you Derek. This poem, for me, grew out of this thought — to borrow your words:

“ Here I discovered that… I was not, in the least sense, any different than the original twelve disciples.”

The past year has been tiring and disorienting for me, as my family and I moved overseas to start life in a new country. In the midst of my spiritual rhythms largely falling apart for a season, God kept bringing me back to this scene in John 21. It is a window into just how messy Peter’s journey of following Jesus was, and a reminder of how abundant Jesus’ grace is toward those he leads — those like me.
