Top places to have meetings

Many professionals, like myself, who don’t have their own office sometimes need to get creative on finding a space for meetings. Here are some of my favorite places on getting productive with others.

Co-Working Spaces

Co-working spaces are a great compromise between working from home and having your own office. It’s more affordable but provides a professional environment to get work done. I could probably write an entire article on the benefits of co-working alone!

Many co-working spaces have conference rooms that you can book for meetings. There’s also common areas that you can use, especially if it’s a casual get together with a colleague. If you’re not a member of a space they often will allow others to rent a room for a few hours.

Hiking Trails

Finding an activity to do with a colleague is a great way to break the ice, which is why it’s often said that more is accomplished on the golf course than in the conference room. There’s a reason for that, it provides an atmosphere where everyone’s defenses are down and can be open, honest, and direct about why you are together.

I’m not a golfer and many people that I know aren’t into golf either. However I found a love for hiking a few years ago and started to invite colleagues to join me. The results are the same, so you can say this is the new “golf meeting”. Not to mention you’re getting some good exercise at the same time.

Local Coffee Shops

Although I try to avoid coffee shops when I can since usually they are noisey and when it’s crowded it’s hard to find good seating for a meeting. However there are so many around that you can locate a coffee shop that’s close for yourself and who you are meeting with. Plus you can find the ones that are typically quiet or at least their clientele are generally quiet. This also applies to bars where if you go early enough or find the right one can be a nice quiet setting. Besides some alcohol can be another good way to break the ice.

Nevertheless local coffee shops are a casual yet modern environment to have a meeting and usually they have wi-fi access which is a plus. Not to mention who doesn’t love coffee or tea?
