It is a police officer’s job to de-escalate a situation. They are the professional. They could have easily said something like, “I understand your concern however I am unable to allow you to enquire about the well being of this man in custody without seeing your identification.” How likely do you think Dr. Afshar would have been to produce his ID with a response like that?

People need to hold police officers accountable for their behaviour.
