I build effective teams and departments by leveraging system thinking, Theory-Y management principles, and modern ways of working. My experience ranges from tiny startups to huge industry leaders, and includes roles within the banking, fintech, gaming, telco, gambling, open-source, and IoT industries. I have managed departments of 250+, grown teams by 40 people in 9 months, and bootstrapped teams from 0 to 30+ people in a year. I specialize in structuring engineering departments for truly agile software delivery. I hire, assemble, and coach teams to continuously deliver value through limiting work in progress, validating assumptions, and seeking fast feedback loops. My technical strengths include software architecture, large-scale high-throughput distributed systems, event-driven workflows, maintainable software, automated test strategies, Cloud-native micro-services, Test-Driven Development, Domain-Driven Design, and JVM back-end applications (Kotlin, Java). The teams I form are leaderless, semi-autonomous, and cross-functional, working in ensembles, directly on the main branch, with Continous Integration and Continuous Deployment, releasing to production hundreds of times a day. I form deep and meaningful relationships with the people I work, often ending up working with the same people across multiple roles and companies. Outside of work I hit the gym, enjoy great food in big portions, and improve myself continuously by reading books 1 or 2 hours per day. I have a keen interest in product discovery and strategy, and have been reading about the topic for many years.
