Dropping quick hits on design, research, workshops, org culture, and whatever else…

Reviewing:

  • Harm reduction & restorative practices. LGBTQ+ employees walking out of Netflix brought to mind these great abolitionist graphic notes from Project NIA’s toolbox. Harm reduction is a valuable mindset that is applicable anywhere, and many of these prompts can be helpful even as a self-reflection for orgs to look at their own practices. Reminders for things such as checking the dominant culture, building trust & strengthening relationships.
  • Exploring Regenerative Design Methods blog post from Sam Rye on organic materials as tools. Less post-its, more plants!

[I]nviting designers to step into a new version of the future, centered around regenerative practices. I wanted to show people exactly what that looked and felt like, and how it may change what and how we design.

  • Revisiting this fantastic icebreaker prompt from Dr. Amber Spry for connection:
A tweet from Dr. Amber Spry about a prompt she always asks her class: How does your family/culture cook rice?”
  • Reading: Why Are We Expected to Love Our Jobs? A short review on Sarah Jaffe’s book, which is very timely especially as many workers in the States go on strike. Interesting thoughts on where the mindset all began.
  • Learning: FREE bystander intervention training from ihollaback. Helpful in any context and showing up for one another in public spaces and beyond.
  • Music to: help you meet a deadline

Thats it for now! 🎃 /Michelle
