Group 1: Unsalted Nuts (except walnuts)

Unsaturated fat. Nuts and seeds contain potassium and phosphorus. Potassium and phosphorus can be a concern for nuts and seeds. Limit to ¼ cup portion. High in Omega 6 and low in Omega 3

Almonds— A 2011 study found that almonds can positively affect blood sugar and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Walnuts — Can help with weight loss and lower fasting insulin levels.

Peanuts — Contain protein and fiber, and can help control blood sugar levels.

Pistachios — Have a low glycemic index, and can help improve glycemic status.

Cashews — Contain good fat, which can be beneficial to diabetics. Cashews can also lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease

Nut Fat Profiles

Group 2: Unsweetened Nutmilk & Vegetable Oil

Same as above, but more processed.

Group 3: Processed Foods

Manufactured using oil, salt and other substances.

Canned Foods

Even if you check the label for sugars, jarred and canned foods are processed.

Frozen Foods

Processed. Watch carbs and portion sizes.

Salad Dressing

Including Vegenaise. Can also be a group 4 depending.

Group 4: Ultra-processed Foods

Protein Pastries

Protein Cookies

Diet Soda
