Oasis

I have a few places I go when I need to soak in serenity and push my cares away. I go with camera in hand, capturing the sights that recalibrate both my senses and my spirit.
Once such place is the Allen County Children’s Garden in my hometown, Lima, Ohio. While there is periodic programming for children and a few landscaping sections that hearken to children’s literature, I’ve found it to be an oasis for anyone in my community, from the posh to the penniless.
This morning I sought the garden because I was still at wit’s end over a bill I received in the mail on Friday. It so happens that I have been using a hearing aid for the first time this summer, and I received my properly fitted hearing aid just last week. I waited a whole month undergoing all the medical clearance steps necessary to get this hearing aid covered by my medical insurance. When I opened the bill from the audiology clinic, I was crestfallen to see that the cost of the hearing aid itself hadn’t even been billed to my insurance! The bill was for the full retail of the hearing aid: $1365 due in two weeks.
I opened this bill just minutes after both the clinic and the billing department closed for the weekend. I so wish I was one of those people who can “table” worries until something can actually be done to alleviate those concerns. Alas, I am not. I have tried my best to keep this bill from casting a pall over my entire weekend, but I have still spent too much time rehearsing the conversations I might have on Monday regarding this bill.
I’m really hoping that I reach a reasonable person on my first call who will earmark my account as needing a claim submission. In the meantime, I went to the Children’s Garden for a brief vacation from this mess. The flower beds and vegetable gardens were brimming as they should in the peak of summer. By the time I left, I was no longer thinking of what else could be bought with $1365.
