Three things I’ve learned from a year of blogging

  1. Blogging is first and foremost a conversation with other bloggers. Unless you are already famous through other means or have an exceptionally large and engaged group of family and friends, almost all of your readers will also have a blog. If you do not support other bloggers through likes and comments, your blog will just be a diary hidden in plain sight.
  2. Don’t worry about finding a niche. A blog is all about making connections with others. They will naturally gravitate toward the thing you do best.
  3. Don’t copy and paste blog posts to other web sites. This erodes your search engine rankings. Provide original content to the other sites and link back to your blog within those posts. I made the mistake early on of “syndicating” my posts to Medium and other web sites. Why is this a problem? It goes back to the first thing I learned about blogging. It is a conversation, and you’re no more likely to have the same chat on two different sites than you are to have an identical conversation at work and at home.

What have you learned in your journey as a blogger?

By the way, my blog is Intensity Without Mastery.

Like flowers and bees, bloggers work better together. (cheesy but true)
