10 Thoughts on the LGBTQ Conversation

  1. I have been a Target shopper and will continue to be.

2. I do not support North Carolina’s HB2 “bathroom bill”

3. I am not afraid of using the restroom beside a transgender person.

4. I do not believe that everyone who disagrees with me on the above does so out of discrimination, unfounded fear, or hatred.

5. I think that shutting down conversation by calling your opponent a hater or a bigot is ultimately unproductive.

6. I believe that ascribing motivations to another person is presumptive and often inaccurate.

7. I wish everyone would listen more and stop caricaturing the “other’s” position. I have found these caricatures to be largely inaccurate and certainly not helpful, except to increase divisiveness.

8. I have read terrible, cruel things written about transgender people, and I do not endorse or tolerate those sentiments.

9. I have seen horrible, hateful things written about people who have a hard time understanding current gender theory. I do not endorse or tolerate that either.

10. I believe if we work towards understanding instead of furthering polarization that we can actually do profound, mindset-changing good.
