The goal really is to shut the logical mind off. And if you manage to do that you’ll better off.
When You’re Stuck Mentally, Move Physically
Srinivas Rao

I wholeheartedly agree! Too often I hear about the habitual “5am long-distance runner who listens to audiobooks instead of music for increased personal enrichment.” While that technique might work for some people, I find myself more exhausted whenever I listen to something that requires active concentration/engagement — not just physically but mentally as well.

The way I see it, the opportunity cost incurred from not listening to (conscious) focus-driven content is offset by the (subconscious) emotional gains of being able to “shut my brain off,” and operate on flow instead. Because at the end of the day, I’ll have not only increased my creative potential, but I won’t be battling the mid-afternoon “head droop” from having exhausted myself before work.
