Treat them the same!

‘When we think about cancer, heart disease, or diabetes, we don’t wait years to treat them. We start before Stage 4 — we begin with prevention. When people are in the first stage of those diseases and are beginning to show signs or symptoms like a persistent cough, high blood pressure, or high blood sugar, we try immediately to reverse these symptoms. We don’t ignore them. In fact, we develop a plan of action to reverse and sometimes stop the progression of the disease. So why don’t we do the same for individuals who are dealing with potentially serious mental illness?MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF EAST TENNESSEE

I think its the stigma attached to anything mental. You’d think that in this crazy world, in this day and age — that mental illness would have the exact same priority as physical illness. (maybe even MORESO).

I mean more people with untreated mental illnesses go on shooting sprees than people with cancer, right?

I am so glad I went to get help for my unresolved trauma issues — also known as CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)yesterday.

This all hit me from out of the blue recently and I could no longer ignore it or kick the ‘can down the road’ (which I did for 50 years).

I feel so much better today after my first session. I know it is a ‘process’ to recovery though and s not a quick fix.

I plan to keep writing about this issue in the future.

I’ve been writing daily in my journal about my experiences with this new somewhat scary feeling of being diagnosed with PTSD at age 55.

I do believe someday when I get to the ‘other side of it’ I will be able to write my personal experience which hopefully will also help others.

Thanks for reading!
