The much-anticipated sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 classic, Beetlejuice 2, has added Willem Dafoe to its already impressive cast. Set to premiere on September 6, 2024, the film will feature returning stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara, alongside newcomers Jenna Ortega and Justin Theroux in undisclosed roles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dafoe will play an afterlife law enforcement officer, although details about his character are scarce. His addition to the cast comes just one day after Monica Bellucci was announced to be in talks to play Beetlejuice’s wife, indicating that the afterlife cast is quickly coming together.

Dafoe’s extensive acting range makes him a perfect fit for the stylized genre piece that Beetlejuice 2 is expected to be. Having previously starred in horror films such as Shadow of the Vampire, Antichrist, and Death Note, as well as comedic roles in Wes Anderson films like The Grand Budapest Hotel, The French Dispatch, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Dafoe has the ability to balance the film’s mix of over-the-top comedy and gothic horror.

It remains unknown whether Dafoe’s character will be more intimidating or wacky, but he has the talent to excel at both. With Dafoe’s casting, the film’s ensemble is nearly complete, and fans can expect more details on every new character to be revealed soon.
