That totally stinks. (Add much ruder words here!!) I think that is a brilliant solution to your mobility difficulties and United totally SCREWED UP by not allowing you to bring it on the plane. I hope you get another carrier to serve you. I would suggest this time you get everything in writing, on paper, and have it with you so you can choke them with it if they cause trouble. (I have had mobility issues for 20 years and your treatment was unconscionable.)
