Aaah! Satire is an amazing artform! I admire it. I enjoy it- and you are honing your skills quickly and becoming great at it.

Buried deep in all that flippancy, humour and sarcastic wit is always a diamond of ugly truth.

You made me laugh because I’ve heard way too many conversations like these.

You made me feel indignant, and angry because I have heard way too many conversations like these.

But mostly, as a person who stood next to an 85 year old African lady, in our first truly inclusive, democratic elections; and watched the tears roll down her face as she cast her first vote (the one she had fought for her entire life); I felt sad and dejected because I have heard way too many conversations like these.

I don’t have your gift(I wish I did)- I have to resort to just saying it like it is. So, because I’ve heard way too many conversations like these- this is my contribution to that brunch chat- unfortunately it usually means I’m never invited again!

In my country — people have died for the right to vote. The luxury of democracy and the freedom to practice it, should not be something as easily decided as what’s on the menu.
One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
