I find it interesting when articles refer to US special operations forces as ‘commandos’ (forgive the upcoming pedantry). The US military does not use the ‘commando’ designation out of respect to the British Army commandos of World War 2. At the time, it was decided to created an equivalent force, but with a name that hearkened back to the elite professionals of the Revolutionary War: the Rangers. So in essence, the 75th Ranger Regiment are the US Army Commandos.
