Very good article. I think that any solution for accessing encrypted data-in-motion (messaging) is going to be wholly impractical on anything other than the very smallest of scales. I do, however, think that it might be possible to devise a solution for accessing encrypted data-at-rest, i.e., to allow limited-governmental access to encrypted devices.
