Mayweather vs McGregor: The heist of the century

26th of August 2017. Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will finally square off in the boxing ring, in a match that is marked by the money surrounding it.
After two years of taunts and hints, the undefeated twelve times boxing champion, with a record of 49–0, will go fist to fist with the current lightweight champion of the UFC.
The fighters
Floyd Mayweather, considered by many as the best boxer of his generation, is on familiar ground. Being that the big fight will only include punches (rendering McGregor´s mixed martial arts knowledge useless), he only has to do what he does best. For this reason he is seen as the favorite by most.
Despite this unfavorable condition, the Irish fighter does not look worried. Well known (and loved by his fans) for his “in your face” attitude, he has given Mayweather a piece of his mind in the last few weeks. His fight record is also very impressive (24 wins and only 3 losses), adding to the fact that he is the first Irish fighter to ever hold two belts simultaneously for different weight classes. He definitely has bragging rights, and is a force to be reckoned with.
The money

Millions. Many millions. What allowed this fight to happen, in the first place. It will come from many different sides and pile up in front of the special few involved with the event. But the question is: where does all this money come from?
A) Tickets
The fight is being held at the T-Mobile Arena, with approximately 20,000 seats. To secure a seat where the action will take place you have to be willing to pay at least 3000$ (for the cheapest seats in the house, whereas ringside seats are currently priced at 29,000$ on StubHub´s website). Prices will surely keep on climbing, as we get closer to the fight. The money made from the ticket office is predicted to go over the 70 million dollar mark (registered in the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight).
B) Pay Per View
The bulk of all revenues will come from the audience watching at home. American viewers will be charged 99.95$ for the fight in high definition, or 89.95$ for standard definition. Compared with the values from the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, where 400 million dollars were made, the prices are very similar. The money made from PPV sales will depend on the interest of the public, but according to some sources, it is likely that we are about to see an all time record.
C)Merchandise

With hundreds of millions of dollars already racked up, a mere one to two million dollars in merchandise sales will also add up to the total revenues. For any other fight it would be a huge value, but given the astronomical numbers of this event it constitutes mere “change”.
D)Sponsorships
The asking price for the title sponsor is 10 million dollars. Given the popularity of the fighters, and the wide audience they both attract, companies are lining up to sponsor this event. Some estimations say that 25 million dollars will come from sponsors alone.
How will the money be split between the two fighters?
Ultimately, Mayweather´s PPV numbers outshine McGregor´s. Although the both fighters signed a confidentiality contract, some media outlets say that the split is estimated to be 70–75% in Mayweather´s favor. It is impossible to know for sure how much the fighters will make, but some put McGregor´s paycheck in the 75 million dollar figure. Mayweather´s earnings from the fight will most likely surpass 200 million dollars.
The night of all bets

The betting market is getting ready for the heavy flow of cash that will be on the line during the fight. Casual and professional gamblers will try out their luck (and skill), in guessing the outcome of the event.
According to the bookmakers, Mayweather is what you consider to be, in a gambler´s words, the safest bet. In most betting houses you have 1/6 odds, which means that for every 6$ you bet you will have a 1$ profit.
McGregor is the underdog in this fight, according to the odds . Even a small bet can make you quadruple(sometimes more) your initial investment, in case of an Irish win.
Fighting fans all over the world can´t wait to see the fight, and many promos have been posted online. Here is one that defines the rivalry and the feud that will culminate on August 26.
