GEMS FROM: “UNLIMITED POWER” (PART 1)

THE ANCESTOR OF EVERY ACTION IS A THOUGHT

If we do not consciously direct our own minds and states, our environment may produce undesirable haphazard states. Thus it’s critical that — on a daily basis — we stand guard at the door of our mind, that we know how we are consistently representing things to ourselves. We must weed our garden.

NLP is the study of how language, both verbal and non-verbal, affects our nervous system. Our ability to do anything in life is based upon our ability to direct our own nervous system. Those who are able to produce some outstanding result do so by producing specific communications to and through the nervous system. Success is the ongoing process of striving to become more.

ORIGINS OF NLP

The two men primarily responsible for NLP are John Grinder and Richard Bandler. They are best known for a number of effective behavioral-intervention patters that they codified in the modeling of Dr. Milton Erikson, one of the greatest hypnotherapists that ever lived. Virginia Sair, an extraordinary family therapist and Gregory Bateson, an anthropologist. The two discovered, for example, how Satir was able to consistently produce related relationship resolution where other therapists had failed. They discovered what patterns of actions she produced to create results. And they taught these patterns to their students, who in turn were able to apply them and to produce the same quality of results.

There are three fundamental ingredients that must be duplicated in order to replicate any form of human excellence:

  1. Belief Systems: Whether you believe you can do something or you believe you cannot, you are right. Whichever belief you establish, you are effectively sending your nervous system consistent messages that limit or empower your ability to produce results. Consistently send yourself congruent messages that say you can do something, this will signal your brain to produce the result you desire, and open up the possibility for it.
  2. Mental Syntax: The way your organize your thoughts, structure your systems and plan your actions
  3. Physiology: The mind and the body are totally linked. That way you use your physiology, the way you breath, hold your body, your posture, your facial expressions, quality of your movements, all actually determine what state you are in.

MODELING:

The movers and shakers of the world are often professional modelers, people who have mastered the art of learning everything they can by following other people’s experience rather than their own.

It is the opportunity to continually grow emotionally, socially, spiritually, physiologically, intellectually and financially while contributing in some positive way to other. The road to success is always under construction. It is a progressive course, not an end to be reached.

Power is a constant in the world. You shape your perceptions, OR someone shapes them for you. You do what you want to do, or you respond to someone else’s plan for you.

Power is the ability to change your life, shape your perceptions, to make things work for you and not against you.

Real power is shared, not imposed.

ACTION IS WHAT UNITES EVERY GREAT SUCCESS. ACTION IS WHAT PRODUCES RESULTS.

What we do in life is determined by how we communicate. To ourselves and to others. Become a master communicator and the world will open its doors to you.

Your level of communication mastery in the external world will determine your level of success with others. Personally, emotionally, socially, and financially. More important, the level of success you experience internally, the happiness, joy, ecstasy, love or anything else you desire, is the direct result of how you communicate to yourself. How you feel is not the result of what is happening in your life, it is the interpretation of what is happening. Successful people’s lives have shown us over and over that the quality of our lives is determined not by what happens to us, but rather by what er do about what happens.

You are the one who decides how to feel and act based upon the ways tou choose to perceive your life.

POWER OF STATE

A state can be defined as the sum of the millions of neurological processes happening within us, in other words, the sum total of our experiences at any moment in time. Most of our states happen without any conscious direction on our part. We see something and we respond to it by going into a state.

The difference between those who fail to achieve their goals in life and those who succeed is the difference between those who can not put themselves in a supportive state and those who can consistently put themselves in a state that supports them in their achievements.

The key to love, the key to joy, the key to ultimate power, the ability to direct your life, is the ability to know how to direct and manage your state.

What creates the state we are in:

Firstly, our internal representations (filters through which we see the world) secondly, it is the condition and use of our physiology. What and how you picture things, as well as hat and how you say things to yourself about the situation at hand, create the state you are in and this the kinds of behaviors your produce.

Things like muscle tension, what we eat, how we sleep, how we breathe, our posture, our overall level of biochemical functioning, all have huge impact on our state.

The condition of your physiology literally changes the way you represent and thus experience the world. When you are feeling physically vibrant and totally alive you perceive the world differently than when you are feeling run down. Same thing visa versa, when you perceive things as being difficult or upsetting, your body will follow suit and become tense. These two factors are constantly interacting with each other to create the state we are in.

Thus to control and direct your behaviors, you have to control and direct your states; and to control your states, you have to control and consciously direct your internal representations and physiologies.

Understanding how we experience:

Information from the outside world is received by specialized receptors and sense organs → These receptors transmit external stimuli to the brain → Through the process of generalization, distortion, and deletion, the brain takes these electrical signals and filters them into an internal representation.

Your experience of an event is not exactly what happened, but rather a personalized internal representation.

THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY

Your internal representation is not a precise rendering of the even. It is just one interpretation as filtered through specific personal beliefs, attitudes, values and metaprograms.

Since in the end we do not know how things really are, but how we represent them to ourselves, why not represent them in a way that empowers ourselves and others, rather than creating limitations?

No matter how terrible a situation, you can represent it in a way that empowers you.

If physiology + Internal Representation = State + Behaviors

Your models of the world + stored neurological strategy = Behaviors

PRODUCING EMOTIONAL STATES BY MANAGING YOUR INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

You can become ecstatic by immediately adopting the point of view that creates that emotion. You can picture in your mind the kinds of things that create this feeling. You can change the tone and content of your internal dialogue with yourself. You can change the specific postures and breathing patterns that create that state in your body. The same is true with any emotion.

PATH TO SUCCESS:

Know your outcome : Define precisely what you want.

Take action : Take the types of actions that you believe will create the higher probability of producing the results you desire.

Develop the sensory acuity to recognize the kinds of responses and results you are getting from your actions.

FRAMING THE WAY EXPERIENCES AFFECT YOU

In the end, it all comes down to the way in which you communicate with yourself and the actions you take.

It is not what happens to us that separates failures from success. It is how we perceive it and what we do about what “happens” that makes the difference.

Frame life challenges as tests to become a better person. Anytime you begin to feel overwhelmed by hardship remember this.

Figure out how to make every experience work for you.

Figure out how to consistently communicate to yourself that this particular experience occurred for a purpose. When you do, yo’ll find that you formed sets of beliefs and values that continued to direct your life from a sense of advantage rather than tragedy.

BELIEFS

A beliefs is any guiding principle that can provide meaning and direction in life. Beliefs are prearranged, organized filters to our perceptions of the world. They are like commanders of the brain.

They are performed, pre organized approaches to perception that filter our communication to ourselves in a consistent manner.

One person with a belief is equal to a force of 99 who only have interests. That is precisely why beliefs open the door to excellence. Beliefs deliver a direct command to your nervous system. When you believe something is true, you literally go into the state of it being true.

The birth of excellence begins with your awareness that your beliefs are a choice. The simple trick is to choose the beliefs that are conductive to success and the results you want and to discard the ones that hold you back.

Believing it can be done is a self fulfilling prophecy.

Where do our beliefs come from?

Your environment. This is where the cycles of success breeding success and failure breeding failure are played our in the most relentless fashion. Again, the external environmental frustrations and deprivations are not the biggest problem, the real nightmare is the effect these have on your belies and dreams. If all you see is failure, it is very hard for you to form the internal representations that will foster success.

Events. Small and large events will help foster beliefs.

Knowledge. Direct experience, consuming informations, viewing the world as it is portrayed by others.

Past results. The surest way to create a belief that you can do something is to do it once. If you succeed once, it is far greater to form the belief that you will succeed again.

Mental Hack. Creating in your mind the experience you desire in the future as if it were here now.

HOW DO YOU RELEASE YOUR INNER ARTIST AND MAKE HIM WORK?

Beliefs are specific, consistent organizational approaches to perception. They are the fundamental choices we make about how to perceive our lives and thus how to live them. SO The first step toward excellence is to find the beliefs that guide us toward the outcomes we want.

In order to model excellence, you have to start with the belief systems of excellence. These are some that have empowered people to use more, do more, take greater action, and produce greater results.

1. Everything happens for a reason and a purpose and it serves us. Believe that every adversity contains a seed of an equivalent or greater benefit. There are an infinite number of ways to react to any situation.

2. There is no such thing as failure. There are only results. Most people in our culture have been programmed to fear this thing called failure. Yet all of us can remember a time where we wanted one thing and got another. Successful people know that if they try something and it does not work, they’ve had a learning experience. They take what they learned and try something else. Take some new actions and produce new results.

3. Whatever happens, take responsibility. We generate our own experiences in life, either by behavior or by thought, and we can learn from all of them. If you don’t believe you are creating your world, whether it be your successes or your failures, then you are at the mercy of circumstances. Things happen to you, You are an object, not a subject.

4. It is not necessary to understand everything to be able to use everything. People who are in power usually have a working knowledge about a lot of things but often have little mastery of each detail of their enterprise.

5. Work is PLAY — Be like Picasso “When I work, I relax; doing nothing or entertaining visitors makes me tired” — The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation. THOUGHT:

6. There is no abiding success without commitment. Individuals who succeeded have a belief system in the power of commitment. If there’s a single belief that seems almost inseparable from success is that there is no great success without great commitment. TO FOLLOW WITHOUT HALT; ONE AIM: THERE IS THE SECRET OF SUCCESS.

RECAP: INFORMATION IS THE COMMODITY OF KINGS. MASTER COMMUNICATORS ARE THOSE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY WANT AND WHO TAKE MASSIVE, EFFECTIVE ACTION, VARYING THEIR BEHAVIOR UNTIL THEY ACHIEVE THEIR OUTCOMES. THE PATHWAY TO EXCELLENCE IS THROUGH MODELING. FIND PEOPLE WHO HAVE CREATED MASSIVE SUCCESS AND MODEL THE SPECIFIC ACTIONS THEY CONSISTENTLY TOOK THAT PRODUCED RESULTS, THEIR BELIEFS, THEIR MENTAL SYNTAX AND PHYSIOLOGY SO YOU CAN PRODUCE SIMILAR RESULTS IN A SHORTER TIME.

STATES

We keep having experiences that are being recorded. We store these experiences in the brain like records in a jukebox. These recordings can be played back at any time if the right stimulus in our environment is triggered, if the right button is pushed.

You need to reprogram this jukebox so it plays a completely different song.

Nothing has power over you other than that which you give it through your thoughts.
