The People and the Job Market. Are there truly not enough jobs? Or the candidates are unqualified? Here’s what I think.

The lack of enthusiasm to keep learning and to acquire relevant skills, coupled with the rise in digitalization — creating more jobs and finding other ways to get a good number of jobs done with the help of technology simultaneously, contributes to the reasons many people today are complaining of having no jobs. Another truth is that, with the increase in digitalization, most jobs will require a certain level of expertise to secure them, maintain them, and even shoot for better jobs.

If you ask me, I’d say there’s always something to do! A thousand things and more. What is lacking is the expertise to get the job done and even the dedication to acquire the skills required to do the job efficiently in the future. There’s a lot to be done, and there’s room enough for all of us.

Have you noticed that literally everyone is hiring these days, but no one is getting hired? The thousands of jobs available are not necessarily the jobs people want today, and vice versa. I guess we’re all aware of the nature of our job market today; meager compensation packages, unbelievable demands, and the “we basically work 24/7 culture.” This is not exactly what a lot of people are willing to do today, and very good jobs, as expected, demand a high degree of expertise to guarantee the quality of the work you would do tomorrow while representing the company. We also agree that the former outnumbers the latter, right?

What’s there to do?

I would simply say, acquire relevant skills and prepare for the job market. Gather as much experience as you can. Sometimes you will get these experiences from jobs with very low compensation packages or even from volunteering. Do not take it for granted. Learn while at it. Grow! Invest in yourself! Acquire as many skills as you can that are in line with your career path; that will help you become better at the work you do.

In this article, TOP SKILLS YOU SHOULD LEARN BEFORE 2023 RUNS OUT, I recommend a couple of skills you can start learning that will propel your growth. Find the time and read through it!

To add to the list,

  • Collaboration

This is simply working together for a common goal. We have to learn the art of collaboration in order to thrive in the workspace. The overall goal is to hit the target, knowing that the success of every project is a result of the collective efforts of the entire team. If you shoot for credits, you risk missing the mark and putting the entire team’s work in jeopardy. Learn to COLLABORATE.

  • Resilience

The workspace is tough. Working solo may be tougher, lol. You’ve got to be resilient to push through and not abandon at the slightest discomfort. Hiccups will come, and setbacks will set in, but your ability to withstand and bounce back will determine how far you will go.

  • Project management

The ability to manage a project well is fundamental for every business or firm, and its importance cannot be overstated. It will allow you to organize and facilitate the smooth running of the business and eliminate potential distractions on your journey.

  • Efficiency

You have to be good at what you do to have an edge against your peers and get that job. Master your craft and perform at your optimum. Of course, it doesn’t happen overnight. Most importantly, you should know that no one became a master at something by wishing for it or watching others do it. You’ve got to put your hands on deck and try to get the job done. It doesn’t matter how many attempts. Try it. Do it until you master it.

  • Sales

What’s the essence of getting all these skills if you cannot market them? Master the art of selling, and you’re unbeatable.

Here are a few tips also you can find useful in your job hunt

  • Learn a skill
  • Try volunteering
  • Build your network; attend relevant events
  • Build a solid profile online. You may really wanna consider this.
  • Customize your application before sending it out. This article on Elevate’s blog can help you write a winning CV. Click here to read.

Remember, it doesn’t matter what skill you decide to acquire first. What’s important is that you learn as much as you can until you become the best. Don’t stop learning! Don’t stop shooting. A famous quote by Norman Vincent Peale says, “Shoot for the Moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

There’s always something to do! Do you still think jobs are difficult to come by?
