An Introduction to La Famiglia

Over the past 50 years there has been an explosion in Mafia culture stemming from the huge success of The Godfather trilogy of movies by legendary director Francis Ford Coppola.

These movies spawned a huge wave of interest in all things Mafia related and in mafia culture in general that still exists to this day. Following in The Godfather’s footsteps, many other film and television titles have won acclaim, such as Goodfella’s, Casino, Donnie Brasco, The Sopranos & more recently The Irishman to name but a few.

While there are many reasons these films have been successful, one of the most pivotal is that they transport people from their default lives into another world where they glimpse what it is like to exist in a world they would never otherwise bear witness to. Murder, extortion, racketeering etc are activities most people in real life would never contemplate partaking in. However, the juxtaposition of criminality with justified heroism helps to reconcile the darker side of human desire, making such shows a popular form of escapism for many people.

La Famiglia brings the interplay of wholesome entertainment and base human instinct to the crypto and NFT world. Created by 101 Labs, we began as a PFP project but with a much larger vision. La Famiglia envisions our collection being set in a multi-chain metaverse which serves as an escape for its members, allowing them to participate in a romanticised mafia society which would otherwise only be viewable on the screen .

While the metaverse may seem a distant concept, the reality is that within a few short years technology will allow us to transport our digital selves into virtual reality worlds with our online avatars. We will be hopping between digital worlds, social clubs, platforms etc with our digital identities. Our belief is that this future is closer than we realise and it is with this vision firmly fixed in mind that La Famiglia begins our journey. Each nft within the collection will act as a membership card for the entire project, and more importantly to the entire family within the metaverse.

While I think everyone can agree the mafia can act reprehensibly, they also represent admirable qualities such as putting family first, helping their own, and working together to create a better world for their own. The mafia was formed by those who felt that they were being excluded or overlooked as a minority, and decided to stand up for their sovereign rights as human beings. La Famiglia is more than just another cash grab project, more than just another empty promise. Our core principle is community. In our exclusive social club, members can connect and share with each other, and we hold a long-term vision of supporting each and every member in creating independent wealth.

It all begins on Solana. Chosen because of the ease of use and low transaction fees, Solana was an easy choice for the first home of La Famiglia. This allows each and every founding member of the family to gain access to a project with a low price point for entry and become part of a family that rewards its members, that allows them to join a solid community that is inclusive to people with all levels of experience in crypto. Joining La Famiglia comes with peace of mind that this is being built by a team that is in it for the long haul with a vision that spans the next decade and beyond and not just the next few weeks or months. From day one the founders will have a community wallet with a 50/50 royalties split on the secondary sales. We have purposely avoided calling the project a DAO, as it is fast becoming a buzz word that many projects bandy about without a clear pathway to implementing. At La Famiglia, our ultimate vision is that the project will be entirely community run and owned, however we are experienced enough to know that this will not happen overnight and will be a gradual transition once solid foundations have been laid.
