People use those techniques because they do work (on a cognitive level).

Thankfully, there’s also a high road here. Benji Hyam says:

“We can build authority the honest way.”

This means focusing on the people we’re trying to help.

I like this because it means we can spend less time worrying about our image, and more time improving the lives of the people we’re serving.
