Product Hunt quietly kills podcasts
Will focus exclusively on product discovery
Product Hunt’s podcast directory is being shuttered.
This morning, when I tried to submit a new episode of my podcast, I noticed that the category had been removed from the main menu. The URL slug is now being used by a generic “podcast” tag for related apps:

The inline podcast player has also been removed.
Members of the MakerHunt Slack noticed the disappearance last week:

When I asked Ryan Hoover, he confirmed the change:
As of this time, you can still see a list of new episode submissions, and Podcasts are still a choice on the submission form.

However, it’s likely these will be removed soon.
Personally, I’m sad about the news. While Podcasts (as a category) was always a bit of an odd duck inside Product Hunt, it was also one of the most used “expansion categories” (Games and Books being the other two).
It will be tricky to built an alternative. Product Hunt Podcasts worked because there was already a base of nerdy, podcast lovers in their audience. Building that kind of community of scratch is really difficult.
Here are some interesting alternatives: Podcast Rank and Quesly.
