Facebook’s Prepack — The Next Killer In The JavaScript Zone
Dor Moshe

I’m really glad to learn about this! Conceptually, this is just SO in line with the way Facebook has been approaching JavaScript recently, with a heavy emphasis on static analysis (flow), compilation (babel), and userland optimizations (react). It’s interesting to contrast this with Google’s approach, which is obviously WAY more focused on the runtime itself (Chrome, V8, web components). The comparison between prepack and closure compiler reveals the difference in concerns so clearly.

And I am so glad that both exist! I find it quite wonderful that two of the largest web companies in the world are approaching these problems from opposite sides, and contributing everything under open source licenses.

I’m extremely curious, though, how these might converge a bit as WebASM gets ready for prime time.
