Mr Meyer, won’t you have some mercy on those you call evil.

Identifying evil is not something ever to be done lightly but it becomes necessary when people’s reluctance to be cruel is used against them to support incompetence, promote fear, and spread ignorance. We are all trying to maintain perspective and to frame the reality of what is happening in humor and humility. In my opinion we now need to call it what it is and move to block the destruction of our environment and actions designed to cause suffering for diverse sections of our population. Bigotry, misogyny, racism, xenophobia, willful ignorance, and limitless greed can no longer be political options. To remove those from acceptable conduct requires that those doing these things be clearly identified. To avoid violence we need to take open and public positions. Unfortunately as we are seeing, silence is taken as support, politeness is taken as weakness. Humor and denunciation is the last, non-violent, tool that we have but it is powerful.
