What concerns me more than whether or not he fires someone for punching another employee (regardless who it is) is that he preemptively wants to fire someone because someone “may” punch him because they were offended. Anyone can get offended for any reason, and they frequently are. It turns personal responsibility for self control on it’s head.
Imagine 30 years ago, (or now in some states) firing a gay or lesbian employee because the other employees will be offended and might assault them. It’s like firing a women because the male employees might sexually harass her.
It would mean anyone can be fired for any reason because someone can get offended by something they think or say or do. It might be a persons religion (evangelical Christian, Muslim, Mormon) or a couple getting divorced, child custody, money dispute, a love triangle, almost anything.

We don’t preemptively fire people because someone else might get violent because they don’t like their opinion. Especially with software engineers in a place like Google. These are supposed to be professionals. Yonatan is treating them like infants.
