Praise for Seth Godin’s altMBA

I graduated the challenging course this August:

At 25 I know the value of learning from others more experienced:

I had been aware of the altMBA several years before I applied. I remember clicking the link on Seth Godin’s blog post. Something about it felt meant for me. The prompt said it should take 20 minutes, I took 15. I decided to write about my failures instead of accomplishments. How I couldn’t convince someone to make the right decision. How I learned that narrative and storytelling with emotion was infinitely more convincing that numbers, facts and analysis (even though I personally like to make the statistical choice).

In the altMBA I gave knowledge to my inner marketer learning about personas and worldviews, my inner investor learning about sunk costs, and it even helped me as a human being in opening up, sharing and creating connections.

I only met Seth once at a speech he gave in late 2012. He signed my copy of Poke The Box. There is no personal interaction with him during the course. We see him only through teaching videos. The live classes are among cohorts and cohort-graduates. Almost all of the personal interactions are with your learning group (4–5 teammates rotated each week) where there is an private Zoom conference just between the four of you. A big part of the course is about masterminding with your teammates.

I know he shows personal interest in the homework projects. Even though there is no interaction with him his presence is felt throughout the course and he shows a surprising amount of interest and time.

Maybe one day I will see him and thank him personally if we finally meet.

There is a little big magic around the altMBA that is hard to describe.

If you are looking for people on your wavelength — plugged into the current of generous creativity, vulnerable bravery and leveling up — this is the place to be.

It is a place to surrender what is for the possibility of what could be.

I graduated with many new friends from all edges of the planet, from many cultures, all connected by ideas around the course and a desire to level-up.
