Ask Ethan: Is the Universe expanding faster than expected?

I can’t help but think we have the fundamental ideas wrong about the origin and nature of the universe. Arthur Young, perhaps one of the most overlooked of cosmologists in the American pantheon, posited a torus model of space, so the ‘great attractor’ could be the ‘top’ of this torus and we have yet to plumb the bottom-a 3D doughnut shape and we get moved in an eternal shift towards the top out through the bottom again in 50 billion year cycle (perhaps)and the expansion occurs all over again, perhaps we have all been through many times and each time we are configured slightly differently-but this is speculation… to me the torus model would account for many things.
