Legislator’s Fight for Their Communities in Upcoming Election

Nassau County, N.Y. — This year’s election is not capturing the major headlines, however, that doesn’t mean any less for local district legislators. Incumbent District 2 County Legislator, Siela A. Bynoe and Republican nominee for Nassau Legislator in District 1, Cherice Vanderhall. These two candidates might be running for different races, but both have a common mindset: fighting for their communities.
Meet the candidates
Legislator Siela A. Bynoe has served as the Nassau County Legislator since 2014 and has lived in Nassau County for over 40 years. Bynoe has a diverse background that spans to both private and public sectors, as well as non-profit.
“I am definitely a person that believes that words are impactful and you should say what you mean and mean what you say” said Bynoe. “I think we have a huge responsibility to ensure that were communicating with our constituencies and our colleagues in a way that’s respectful, and a way that can provide change.”

Current Town of Hempstead District Attorney and Republican nominee for the District 1 Nassau Legislator Cherice Vanderhall has been a lifelong community member within District 1 and has stressed that she does not represent voting one way down the line.
“When we talk about character and politics, much of what is missing is: one self control and second, holding our colleagues accountable” said Vanderhall. “It’s how we hold ourselves accountable to our employees and constituencies and respecting everyone. Doing what you do to others as you want done to you”.
What each candidate represents
As previously mentioned, both candidates are fighting for their districts due to their lifelong connections to those communities. Both candidates have different stances that their running on.

Legislator Bynoe summed up her stances down to three points.
“I would say that those three stances would include first Investing in our local community. My second point would be protecting our families and the last would be preparing our youth for what is to come next” said Bynoe.
Bynoe has obtained over 500,000 in public projects, previously passed a bill requiring mental health training for all county employees, and hosted job fairs and events for local kids to provide future employment opportunities.
For District Attorney Vanderhall, she also explained her three promises if she were elected into office.
“I’m offering to stop wasteful government spending, fight against reassessment backdoor tax hikes and push for fair funding for community improvement projects in our neighborhoods,” said Vanderhall.
Vanderhall has worked in her short time as Hempstead District Attorney on strengthening the relationship between legislators of all parties, law enforcement, and community members.
