One of the key messages to the developers who are selecting a platform is: how is this a win/win proposition? If you can’t come up with a solid win/win scenario than it’s a bit risky to bank your application on a platform with uncertain future. Companies like Twilio and DocuSign make it clear that by using the API you are facilitating more transactions and in turn more revenue for the platform company. The win/win is clear.
In Parse’s case the win/win was clear until Facebook bought them, then all of a sudden it wasn’t clear how more people using Parse contribute to more ad sales for FB.
