I’ve seen this far too often in the British Health System- the more hours you work as a manager ‘the better you are’, and if your subordinates are not working long hours then they’re ‘lazy and not pulling their weight’.
In truth if a manger can’t get their job done in the allotted hours then they’re either lousy at delegation, or unable to prioritise, or haven’t ever heard the word ‘no’.
These people are frequently bullies, frequently burn out quickly, and their careers crash and burn.
