Great article but I have a few questions:

If I follow this and I did not copy over the vendor folder, it fails because the vendor folder appears to be a dependency

Why does the vendor folder get ignored by default?

Is deployment possible in the following situations?

If I only have FTP access to the server

If I can not install composer

If no vendor folder is present
