“A philosopher of science”
Why would science need any philosophers to start with?
I cannot speak about the particular individual and his qualifications but having spent 11 years of my life in Universities I have a significant sample of failed engineers, physicists and mathematicians going to philosophy because there they could BS without being held accountable for anything they say: “Hey, it’s just philosophy”.
Especially interesting was the fact that the majority of those who chose to embrace BS in their life instead of doing some hard work had severe problems with statistics and probability theory. I cannot say if this is the case with the particular philosopher of science.
Philosophy of science is another useless academic subject that must be terminated because it serves no real purpose other than at the level of quantum mechanics and Bell inequalities but even there the topic is more technical than philosophical.
Nowadays science has instrumentation capability to falsify theoretical claims and a philosophical account is useless: you either measure it or not. Yet, universities keep offering these subjects because they want to keep the dropouts from the technical departments.
What is highly disturbing is that an engineer spends many years doing hard work and qualifies better to discuss some problems because of skin-in-the-game, but the mainstream media is infatuated with BS artists like philosophers of science and other “hands off” dreamers and thinkers.
At the same time, taxpayers pay a lot of money for philosophers of science to dream about reality or anti-reality in their many variations (they invent a new one every year to keep the funds flowing).
This sh*t has to stop. People with no skin-in-the-game have no place in a modern society and have nothing to offer except their “rent seeking” skills and ability to take taxpayer money. It is crazy that bus drivers and airline pilots pay taxes so that philosophers can dream of a new reality. This is insane.
