You are correct, I do kind of regret asking how we know time is curved. I guess for the most part this is because we, rather I would normally relate to time on a minute scale whereas cosmologists and the like are likely to see the bigger picture.
I still find it hard to get my head around time being curved or indeed the significance of it being curved. I suppose I consider the distance to say our nearest star other than our own sun and view it as a straight line and so am probably wrong in this assumption. Beyond that the figures in terms of distance are for me, unimaginable and I justify my lack of thought towards this as being assured we are never going to get there anyway….
I hope my response doesn’t come across as too negative, if it did it is certainly not meant that way. I appreciate your attempts to enlighten a laymans brain. Just sorry my general lack of spacetime knowledge hasn’t allowed it.
Next of course I could ask about the multi-verse but perish the thought at what confusion might then follow.
