John Richardson used one word that stands out, weaponization.
It’s perfectly clear that the US government is happy use citizenship both as a weapon against its own people in the USA and as a weapon against other countries by attempting to use millions of people as financial and informational trojan horses in those nations.
I’m pretty sure the huge amounts of information being received under FATCA will be receiving further analysis to see where further money can be found in those nations.
They’re still looking for that pot of gold they are convinced is overseas, money that comes from entirely foreign nations from people who can whine all they want about the unfairness of it all, because nobody is listening.
Except some nations are now starting to understand what we have been telling them for years, and the report to the EU makes for ugly reading just as we knew it would.
As far as I’m concerned( and I know I’m not alone here) this is now a global human rights abuse and it is only the fact that this is the USA and it’s about collecting due taxes that this has been allowed to continue, but we here know this runs much deeper than a little fair taxation.
It’s unfair, unworkable, theft from other nations and it’s ruining lives before a single cent is due to the thieving US government.
Americans are no longer free to leave the USA unless they can pay the price of persecution by the USA and discrimination outside of the USA along with accepting that they can be ruined any time for all the reasons stated in Greggs article, or they could renounce and the chances are they can’t do that either.
This will stop, one way or another.
