Sault Ste. Marie, ON to Iron Bridge, ON to Sudbury, ON, to Mattawa, ON to Cobden, ON

Wow! Yesterday marked one month worth of pedalling and somewhere north of 4,000km travelled. What a wonderful month. I got to thinking that The term nomad could be readjusted for a 2017 mental health context – No Mad. There are teams of evidence to support that exercise is medicine, and never have a more fully believed it than on this trip. Mind and body feel great, and it has been a tremendous opportunity for personal growth and resilience building. Getting moving, whether it is parking a bit farther away from the office to snag a few more steps, a 5 minute jog to shake off the rust, or a wee bike ride, makes a huge difference in how you feel. The first step (or in my case, getting my aching bones over the saddle) is often the toughest, but once you catch a groove, it is quite rewarding.
I challenge you to get moving in a way that works for you!

It was pretty neat to connect with the Hubley (my Grandmother’s) side of the family in Sudbury – many of whom I’d not met before. My new BFF Gary and co treated me like a king for the duration of my stay, and suggested that making mischief might be genetic.
A few stats so far:
- Flat tires – 6 (5 in SK, one in MB)
- Number of times passed by a portable sauna on the highway – 1
- Max distance in a day – 230km
- Min distance in a day – 76km (not counting rest days, in Calgary and Winnipeg)
- Pounds dropped – 18
- Bears spotted – 4
- Moose sightings – 1
- Ukulele’s discarded – 1
- % of body composition that is currently pizza / gatorade – 84%
Off to Ottawa today via Quebec, starting in a beautiful little town called Cobden (with a coffee shop that opens at 6am!).
Missing my team at Common Good Solutions, particularly my early rising partner in crime Dave and out early morning banter.
Home stretch!
Make it a great day,
Mike
