Remote working was not “banned”, although it’s a point often used in the first 200 words of articles demonizing Marissa Mayer. I often worked remotely, myself over my two years at Yahoo.

The average quality of engineer at Yahoo was not amazing, and not everyone is cut out for remote work. The offices had become like “ghost towns”, and employees who were not good at holding themselves accountable had become profoundly unproductive and anti-collaborative.
