Attitude = Altitude
I’m sure you've heard something cliche like this before. Whether you’re a believer of this type of stuff or not, I’m going to ask you to do me a favor and let this maybe change your life. This has been on my mind lately, and someone probably could benefit from this as I have.
Let me start with a real life example to illustrate what I mean. I’m going to use the example of shooting a gun for accuracy. I am going to explain it in depth, but stick with it. Its a deep metaphor. Promise. *Money-back guarantee.*
First you look with your eyes down range to see exactly where and what you’re going to shoot. You focus with your eyes, gauge distance, and wind. You start breathing in and out slowly trying to control the movement of your core muscles. You being to control your heartbeat as you slow down your breathes.
Next, you look through your scope and see the grass blowing to see which way it is swaying and how much. You are focusing on each and every breath. Feeling the heartbeat in your veins. You are aware of everything around you. Your senses are heightened, but you ignore everything that doesn't impact your target. You are your cross-hair.
Aim small, miss small; you see your target, and you put the zero dot on the button of a shirt. You begin to squeeze the trigger, a gentle pull straight back as to not pull the bullet left or right. As you exhale completely, and between heartbeats, with your zero on your target, your trigger breaks. The bullet flies true, your preparation, focus, and practice have lead to this moment, when your bullet hits within millimeters of where you wanted it.
Now, there is as much depth in this example as you want to find. But let me just sum this up.
Everyone has goals, right? You have goals. Your goal from this metaphor is sending the bullet down range and destroying your objective. It could be becoming a doctor, or acting in movies, or being a successful entrepreneur. This process of slow, methodical steps, combined with honed instincts through hours and hours, and thousands of rounds down range have given you the ability to do what most people would think impossible.
Now insert your goal. If you are focused on failure, that is where you are aiming, that is what your bullet will strike. You are planning to hit failure. If you are focused on success your bullet is going to hit success.
Focus on what you want to achieve. Work at it until you do. Your attitude is your focus down range.
Basically to sum it all up: “There are two kinds of people: those who think they can, and those who think they can’t, and they’re both right.” — Henry Ford
