The internet rose as a great universal platform for sharing
information simply. A paper, a video or an image could be hosted and then
browsed/downloaded and be enjoyed from a far. For many of us the idea of
browsing online is a common idea. We’ve been given assignment, we’ve researched through online browsing, written assignments and so on. We’ve jumped onto the news and read the daily headlines. We’ve jumped onto Netflix and binged on all kinds of TV series.
To many of us to date this is the reality of the internet; it is asynchronous, that is we receive…
This past week has been inspiring for many as we witnessed Lady Gaga win the Oscar for Best Original song. She won the award for her popular song ‘Shallow’. Throughout the media the fanfare has seen coverage of the award reach all over the world. Further, this excitement has been celebrated that much more due to her speech which many feel to be even more inspiring, epic, encouraging, and hopeful.
One notable part of her acceptance speech resonated with one and all.
“And if you are at home, and you’re sitting on your couch and you’re watching this right now…
For those of you that don’t know me. I am a doing person, I tend to always be on the go, there is a place to go to, there is a thing to see, there is an activity to do, ALWAYS.
In many ways this is great, and I love it, I’ve been able to achieve much, see many things, participate in things, work with great people, and see great results.
As I write this I’m sitting in a café with my wife on holidays. We’re taking a day to do things she loves. She works at a different pace…

Have you been encouraging?
Have you considered my needs?
Have you sought to understand?
Have you helped me understand your needs?
Have you accepted?
Have you made me feel guilty?
Have you lied to me? (Omitted the truth even?)
Are you trying to manipulate me?
Have you stacked another against me?
Have you falsely represented your need?
Have you grumbled?
The former respects both parties regardless the outcome.
The former is loving and the later is unequal; it is unlikely to get a respectful response even if your need is met.
We won’t always get these things right, although we do have the power to communicate and negotiate our needs/desires etc. maintaining boundaries respecting ourselves and others. This is one of the special aspects of being human.

Every day we think, this blog is asking you to think, at the workplace we think, as we read the news we think, as we hear what’s going on in the world we think. As we process all this thinking do we leave with some quick thoughts or do we dive deep into it?
All this thinking had me wondering about where we leave our thoughts.
Do we draw a conclusion quickly either by lacking a willingness to invest in thought, perhaps we respond quickly as a result of strong understanding and developed thought? Do we give it some time…
Recently I’ve noticed that I make a lot of assumptions and surprisingly some of them can be very small indeed. I noticed this especially when I saw a street sign; I completely misunderstood its meaning. The sign was for a café and I thought it was indicating an arrow for where to park. I drove along following the arrow and there was little of a car park. There was only room for one car and I think it was owned by the barista. There was little to no space to actually park. I was thinking to myself “how did I…
