Getting Motivated
I’ve decided to start writing a daily programming / workout blog to re-motivate myself and stay accountable to a new career path and getting healthy again.
I’ll be writing about daily programming progress to make sure I’m staying consistent, motivated, and to see my progress. My upcoming wedding and the daily disappointment in the mirror is motivation enough to make a change in my diet and workout habits starting today.
PROGRAMMING
Goal: To be employable by January next year when I’ll be job searching in Canada or the United States.
I’ve realized I’m very far behind where I should be with the time that has passed since I started. Seeing the progress other people in my group have made compared to the progress I’ve made doesn’t sit well with me and made me realize I haven’t been putting in the hours I should be. I’ll be writing about tutorials I’ve done, videos I’ve watched, things I’ve learned, and progress on the projects I’m working on.
EXERCISE & DIET
Goal: To lose 40 pounds by February for the wedding.
The last time I had major weight loss was on a low carb diet with hours of weightlifting, biking, and soccer daily for 2 months. I’ll be doing a low carb diet and cooking all my own meals for the next month until I move to Colombia. I’ll also be starting a daily weightlifting programming if my shoulder is up to it, with pushups and bodyweight thrown in the mix. I’ve never included ab work in any of my workout routines so I’ll be working on that to transform this play-doh body I’ve got going on right now.
I think a realistic goal is similar to Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid, Love. I was getting there in 2012, weighing in at 165 lbs. Following that I bulked up at the gym for 2 years and spent 2 years traveling, partying, and being lazy and find myself currently weighing in at 210, down from 230 earlier in the year.
